  Almost finished pixel tree
Posted by: TomP - 02-03-2017, 11:54 AM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hi All,

Thought I would share a few pics and a vid of my pixel tree and its construction, its using 12 strings of 50 WS2811 5V pixels on the ethernet controller.

I wanted to try and keep everything aligned as much as possible so I could use some basic animated images and get a consistent look so I mounted the pixels in holes cross-drilled through lengths of 20mm PVC electrical conduit. Unfortunately this presented a problem as I now needed to get all the holes equally spaced (35mm centres) and in-line with each other. The only practical way to do was by making a drilling jig (below):

And then drill the holes whilst pegging the other hole to keep it inline

The top and base were assembled from marine ply and then painted with a matt black exterior paint

finally with all the pixels added and some very blistered fingers later:

Here is a youtube vid of it up and running with a few test patterns etc:

  Christmas Star
Posted by: sandy123 - 10-02-2017, 07:43 PM - Forum: General - Replies (5)

Here's a prototype of a Christmas Star that I tried out in the back garden. It's made from two layers of exterior plywood (with spacer). At the back of each layer are sections of RGB strip, all soldered together and controlled by a three channel controller on standalone mode.
The LEDs reflect the light back off the solid surface and give the silhouette effect. Looks better in real life, but the video
gives an idea of the effects it gives. If you're not too confident in soldering, then have a practice beforehand.

I'm now converting some old Halogen Floodlights into LEDs (Green Superflux LEDs) and fitting a controller in each, to light the front of my house up in a green glow for Halloween, to compliment last years Pumpkin face and masks etc. If they look ok, I'll post the results

this is a homebuilt singing face in the shape of a christmas tree similar to those seen on youtube but i marked out, cut and drilled all the holes in this board completley from scratch to my specs
used syncrolight's static light sets cut down to fit eah section and 1 dc08 controller,
tell me what you think of it Smile

  Pixel Grid animation questions
Posted by: TomP - 10-01-2017, 11:34 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hi All,

Thanks for the earlier help with getting up and running, I am really liking the software and getting to grips quite quickly with the basics Smile

Just for testing and messing around I have arranged a 5V 2812 strip into a 6 row * 10 column arrangement and its hooked up to an SD card controller. Please excuse the temporary Ryvita packet it is taped on to as I was doing this late evening Rolleyes

I'm just been playing around trying to get familiar with the software etc and ran into a few problems which I couldn't get my head around so hopefully someone will be able to point me in the right direction.

If I individually set LED's on the bottom grid or solid colours etc they work fine they also seem to work fine with other 2d animation effect such as the Meteor shower.

If I try and do frame animation i just seem to get really random results so presumably I'm doing something very wrong here as I am convinced the software and hardware are doing what they are supposed to as solid colours and individual LEDs can be controlled with no issues. I tried to do something a bit like a moving St Georges flag to test it out and here is a youtube link that hopefully gives a good idea what seems to be happening:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0x38wliWlmE

It seems that I can turn LEDs on (not always the right ones) and cant turn them back off, I have tried on each frame selecting black and clicking on the affected bits which didnt seem to make a difference.

Also while playing around with the pixel grid I had another question, how does the Animated Image option work? Sorry to be a pain, I was kinda hoping to get some animated images going and thought this was probably the right option to be using but I couldnt find any instructions for it like what type of images can be used/where to import from etc.

Thanks

Tom

Hi All
Very new to this but wondering if there is anyway I can use xlights with my syncrolights controllers I have a mate in the states that does synchronisation on a big scale but uses this package. Just wondering if the syncrolights controllers are compatible if so does anyone know what settings I need to use to make them work on xlights.?
He's telling me if I can get it to work he can save me many hours of setup and design timeSmile
Thanks

  A Pause Button
Posted by: nuttytechy - 27-12-2016, 01:03 PM - Forum: General - No Replies

Hello Syncrolight. I was wondering would it be possible for the show designer to have a pause button.

The other buttons, Full play. Scene play, Section play are brilliant but If I do a long show which sometimes do happen a lot for me and when I am pretesting I may make a monumental mistake so I have to stop and rectify the issue but because I have stopped it, I have to start all over again.

Would it be possible to have a pause button so instead of going back to the beginning, I could continue where I left off.

Kind regards

Iain Smile

  New Year Show
Posted by: nuttytechy - 27-12-2016, 12:51 PM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Every Year since we have been using Syncrolight, I have done a special new years show which normally have a show lasting 30 mins or so.

I don't know if I am mad or anything but it takes about a week to mix the music together then around 2-3 weeks to program the show.

Having a problem getting SD card controller working
Posted by: TomP - 24-12-2016, 01:18 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hi everyone,

I'm having a bit of a problem getting the SD card controller to work.

I have hooked up a 1 metre 2812 strip and it doesnt do anything other than blink all the led's at powerup. I have used the utility on the SD card and set it to Stand-alone, 60 channels, 1 output and the correct type.

Double checked the connections at the controller, + pin to 5V on strip, - pin to GND on strip, DAT to DIN on strip and CLK not connected.

In the absence of another controller I had an Arduino sitting around so I've hooked that up to the strip and ran a test pattern with no problems so the strip is working fine.

Is there anything I might be doing wrong or something I've missed?

Cheers

Tom

  LED string - simple question
Posted by: TomP - 21-12-2016, 10:48 AM - Forum: General - Replies (2)

Hi Everyone,

I'm just starting to get set for having a show for next year and ran into a little snag.

On the Syncrolight LED strings can I check the polarity of the connector, I havn't connected yet but was going to test all my DC controllers later and wanted to check before I hook up if the center pin is the +24V or GND.

Thanks for the help.

  Show player problems
Posted by: Phenolic - 17-12-2016, 11:24 PM - Forum: General - Replies (4)

Hi,
I am running the latest Syncrolight software on a Windows 8.1 laptop and am having an issue with the Show Player. I can load shows, set up schedules, however when the schedule starts the show, the show stops immediately, then tries to start again instantly, then stops and continues this loop. On the "Shows" screen of the Show Player it looks like the Play and Stop buttons are being pressed alternately very quickly. My shows play and control my lights fine in Show Designer.

I tried the scheduler on a Windows 10 machine and it works fine. Unfortunately the Windows 10 laptop is unavailable for use as my light controller.

Another thing I have noticed is that my controller is not showing up in Syncrolight Device Manager but still controls my lights when I run a show in Show Designer.
I am using a DC08B controller.

Any ideas?

Best Regards,

Pete
