dmx programming

hi ive been given some dmx spots and would like to use them in my show, ive purchased the professional licence and made a usb rs485 to dmx plug cable.this is where I need some advice how do you programme the lights to computer and then get the show designer software to work them.sorry total newbie at this dmx stuff

All our controllers primarily use our own protocol not DMX.

The software does however have a DMX interface that can be used.
Simply create a network of type DMX on the required USB/Serial device. Be sure to select a baud rate of 250000. (Proffessional licence required)
When using the software for a DMX network, the Controller ID is used to indicates the DMX address (The Channel ID is not used for DMX).
